Oman teams delivered top show in the opening day of the West Asian Beach Volleyball Championship Muscat 2025 which began on Sunday at the sands court of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The four days event, organised by the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) in cooperation with the West Asia Volleyball Federation, featured participation of 21 teams representing various West Asian nations.
In the men’s preliminary round, Oman Team 2 claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Lebanon, while Oman Team 3 earned a convincing 2-0 win over Yemen in a tight clash. Meanwhile, Oman Team 4 suffered a 2-0 loss against Saudi Arabia and Qatar with the same result and Oman Team 2 lost to Saudi Arabia by 2-1 in a closely contested match.
In the women’s category competition, Oman Team 2 went down 2-0 to Lebanon and later lost with the same result to Qatar, while Oman Team 3 suffered 2-0 defeats to both Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Oman teams in the men’s competitions are represented by Team 1 through the pair of Hood al Jalboobi and Ahmed al Hosni while Team 2 featured Dawood and Al Buraiki besides Team 3 comprised Nooh and Yousef and Team 4 featured Khalfan and Saleh.
In the women’s category, Maryam and Liqaa represented Oman Team 1 while Fatma and Amna were players of Team 2 and Al Shaima and Furat in Team 3.
Elsewhere, Bahrain registered a strong start in the men’s competition with a 2-0 victory over Yemen.
On Tuesday, the quarterfinals actions will be held while the semifinals and finals are scheduled on Wednesday. The event attracted elite teams including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon, Yemen, Jordan and hosts Oman.
On Saturday, Oman beach volleyball team, comprising Hood al Jalboobi and Ahmed al Hosni, lifted the title of the 30th edition of Arab Beach Volleyball Championship following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tunisia in the final clash while Morocco emerged victorious in the 20th edition of Arab Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship after they defeated Lebanon in straight sets (2-0) to claim the gold medal.
