The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW), in its latest magazine, highlighted the need for childcare or nurseries at workplaces for the benefit of women employees.

The report prepared by Alia al Jardani, senior media specialist at GFOW, said that working mothers, especially in the private sector, have working hours that extend to eight hours or more, without the availability of nearby nurseries or flexible work hours.

"Between the demands of the job and the needs of the family, many women live a bitter struggle that only those who have experienced it can feel. Supporting working women should not stop at legal texts and legislation, but must extend to include consideration of their humanity and maternal needs, as they struggle to achieve a difficult balance between their professional duties and their familial mission."

The magazine report on "Childcare in the Workplace" said this is a humanitarian and social issue that affects a wide segment of female workers and presents diverse opinions and experiences, which underscores the moral responsibility to develop a work environment that supports working mothers.

The report says that establishing a nursery within the workplace is a strategic step to support female employees in achieving a balance between work and family life. It also contributes to strengthening their sense of belonging and loyalty to the organization. The importance of this initiative lies in the following:

Achieving balance: It allows mothers to reconcile their family responsibilities and their work commitments without having to leave work.

Increased productivity: Mothers feel reassured by having their children close to them, which helps them focus more and improve their work performance. R
