MUSCAT, OCT 19

Samayil Club earned its first victory in the Jindal Football League after defeating Al Rustaq 2–1 in a match held at the main stadium of Nizwa Sports Complex as part of the fourth round of the competition.

Both teams entered the match seeking their first win after a slow start to the season. From the opening minutes, Samayil showed clear intent to score early through quick movements on the wings and central penetrations that unsettled Al Rustaq’s defence. In the 12th minute, the referee awarded a penalty after one of Samayil’s forwards was fouled inside the box. Dawood bin Suleiman al Jabri stepped up and converted it perfectly to the left of goalkeeper Bilal al Balushi, giving his team the lead.

Al Rustaq tried to respond through several attacks led by Mohammed al Ajmi and Abdullah al Ghassani, but Samayil’s solid defence preserved their advantage until halftime. At the start of the second half, Samayil maintained its dominance and doubled the score in the 48th minute when Osama al Zaabi followed up a free-kick cross and fired powerfully into the centre of the net. After the second goal, Samayil dropped slightly deeper to protect its lead, while Al Rustaq intensified its attacks in search of a way back. Goalkeeper Salem al Jabri produced several fine saves, but in the 82nd minute, Mohammed al Adawi capitalised on a corner kick to head the ball home, reducing the deficit. Despite the late pressure, Samayil held firm until the final whistle to secure a valuable win that lifted them to five points in eighth place, while Al Rustaq remained at the bottom with no points.

SAHAM STAGE STUNNING COMEBACK TO BEAT SUR

In the other match, Saham pulled off a thrilling comeback to defeat Sur 3–2 at the Sohar Sports Complex in the final game of Round 4.

Sur started strong, scoring twice through Sameh al Hasani and Ayman al Mukhaini, showing good control and organisation in the first half. But the second half saw a remarkable turnaround as Saham’s coach made effective attacking substitutions. Mohsin Jowhar reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, then equalised with a powerful long-range strike.

In the closing minutes, Zuhair al Hasani capitalised on defensive confusion to net the third goal, sealing Saham’s first victory of the season amid huge celebrations from their supporters. With this result, Saham climbed to 11th place with 4 points, while Sur dropped to 13th place with just 1 point, continuing their winless run in the league.
