MUSCAT, OCT 19

Oman’s national junior billiards player, Hassan al Mousawi, achieved an impressive milestone by winning the bronze medal in the 10-ball billiards event at the Arab Combined Billiards and Snooker Championship, held in Alexandria, Egypt, from October 15 to 22, 2025, with the participation of top Arab national teams.

This accomplishment marks an important step in the young player’s promising career and reflects the remarkable development of billiards in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as the continuous efforts of the Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee to nurture a new generation of talented players capable of representing the nation at regional and international levels.

JOURNEY TO THE PODIUM

Al Mousawi began his campaign with a strong 6–3 victory over Bahrain’s Faisal al Maliki, showing great focus and precision. Despite losing his next match 0–6 to the UAE’s Mohammed Nasser, he bounced back with determination, edging out his Syrian opponent 6–5 in a thrilling, closely contested game.

In the quarterfinals, Al Mousawi maintained his impressive form and defeated Iraq’s Hassan Mohammed 7–6 in a dramatic encounter to reach the semifinals among the tournament’s elite. There, he faced Egypt’s Mohammed Ahmed representing the host nation, and despite a 2–8 defeat, his performance earned admiration from both fans and officials for his courage and composure.

PLAYER’S REMARKS

Following his bronze medal win, Hassan al Mousawi expressed his joy, saying this achievement I consider the result of hard work and long preparation over the past period, both in training and in pre-tournament camps. The competition was very tough, especially against players from Egypt, the UAE, and Iraq who have vast experience, but I believed in my ability to compete and represent Oman in the best way possible. I thank the technical and administrative staff for their continuous support, as well as my teammates who were always by my side. I dedicate this medal to everyone who has supported me since the beginning, and I promise that this will be the first step toward many future podium finishes.

The head of the Omani delegation, Captain Khalid al Shabibi, praised the young player’s outstanding performance, stressing that this achievement reflects the committee’s ongoing efforts to train and prepare young athletes for continental and global competitions.

He added that the Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee is following a clear vision aimed at empowering Omani talents, highlighting the valuable support of Ras Al Hamra Company, which played a crucial role in creating the right conditions for participation and success.

Hassan al Mousawi’s bronze medal represents another proud addition to Oman’s achievements in Arab championships, a message that Omani talent can compete at the highest levels when given proper support and opportunities. Everyone hopes that this medal will be the beginning of more success in future events.
