Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the end of the seasonal ban on kingfish (known locally as kanad) fishing for the year 2025. The ban, which was in effect from August 15 to October 15, has officially concluded, allowing the resumption of fishing and trading activities starting Thursday, October 16, 2025.

The ministry expressed its appreciation to fishermen for adhering to the ban period and their cooperation in supporting sustainable fishing practices. It also reiterated the importance of maintaining the sustainability of kingfish stocks by using approved fishing methods and adhering to the minimum legal catch length of 65 centimeters.

The ministry emphasized its continued efforts to promote responsible fishing and ensure the long-term preservation of marine resources in the Sultanate of Oman.
