MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University, through its College of Law, will be hosting the ninth conference on October 22 on the theme 'The Role of the Legislative System in Social Protection'.

The conference comes at a time of significant legislative changes in the Sultanate of Oman, particularly with the enactment of the Social Protection Law and the Labour Law in 2023. It will feature informative sessions presenting specialised legal research and studies by a distinguished group of judges, academics, and legal researchers from Oman and around the world.

The conference aims to achieve several objectives, including analysing and enhancing national legislation related to social protection, reviewing international best practices, and offering practical recommendations to support the sustainability of the legislative system while balancing the needs of development and social justice, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

Throughout three sessions, the conference will explore various themes related to social protection from civil and commercial, constitutional and criminal, and Sharia and procedural perspectives. It will also include a special session highlighting collaborative research projects by students from the College of Law.

The research presented will address contemporary legal issues that are crucial to the social fabric. Topics will include legal protections for families against domestic violence, the legal framework for corporate social responsibility, and mechanisms to safeguard children's financial rights on social media platforms. The conference will also offer innovative legal perspectives on the legislative protection of future generations' rights, the development of flexible work systems, social protection within the Personal Status Law, and an analysis of the social aspect in compensation assessment and its impact on strengthening the societal safety net.
