A stronger bond between people and endowments is crucial in today's society to support the less privileged and financially disadvantaged segments. It is a general responsibility to participate in such initiatives for a sustainable society, according to Saif bin Salim al Busaidy, CEO of the Imam Jabir bin Zaid Endowment Foundation.
Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the Third Endowment Forum under the theme 'Towards Innovative Endowments and Sustainable Giving', which began with the opening speech of Shaikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Khalili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Imam Jabir bin Zaid Endowment Foundation at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Al Busaidy stated that such support from society is necessary for various individuals and communities.
"Endowments are strategic partners in development, and this forum aims to strengthen integration and cooperation between endowment partners, both institutions and individuals. It also highlights the contributions of the public and private sectors to achieve sustainability and expand societal impact," Al Busaidy said.
"We need relationships between endowments, private companies and charitable institutions to fulfil the aims of endowments. We invite people, companies, NGOs, and others to donate more in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 towards sustainability, building schools and mosques through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP)."
The forum, held under the auspices of Shaikh Salem bin Mustahail al Maashani, Adviser at the Diwan of the Royal Court, was attended by over 400 experts from the public and private sectors. This year's forum focuses on enhancing the developmental role of endowments in the country. Various ideas and initiatives for integrating endowments with charitable work will be shared at the end of the forum, according to the organisers.
Sayyid Dr Munthir bin Hilal al Busaidy, Deputy Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, delivered a keynote address followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Sohar Islamic and the Shaikh Mustahail bin Ahmed Al Maashani Endowment Foundation.
The first theme of the forum was 'Innovation and Digital Technologies in Maximising the Impact of Endowment and Charitable Initiatives', followed by the second theme 'The Integrated Framework between Endowment and Social Responsibility to Promote Development.'
