BAHLA: The first Potters’ Camp began on Tuesday at the Siya and Salut Visitors’ Centre in the Wilayat of Bahla, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, bringing together artists, potters and academics from across Oman to celebrate and advance the nation’s ceramic artistry.

Dr Abdulaziz bin Mohammed al Hinai, Acting Supervisor of Fine Arts at the Ministry of Education in Al Dakhiliyah and Camp Supervisor, said that ceramic art in Oman has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years — evolving from traditional and heritage-linked practices to contemporary, dialogue-driven forms.

He noted that the camp reflects this artistic evolution by serving as a creative platform for exchanging ideas, exploring the expressive potential of clay, and producing works that blend Omani identity with modern aesthetics.

The five-day camp featured practical workshops, academic sessions and artistic evenings, with participation from 35 teachers and 13 artists representing various governorates.

Activities covered all stages of pottery-making — from clay preparation, shaping, drying and firing to applying colour oxides and linings — culminating in an art exhibition that showcases innovative ceramic pieces celebrating both authenticity and modern creativity.

Organised in line with contemporary art trends, the Potters’ Camp aims to strengthen Oman’s position on the global cultural map and highlight the talent of Omani artists in creating contemporary ceramic works with a distinctly national identity. - ONA
