MUSCAT, OCT 5
Al Noor Association for the Blind announced the launch of the groundbreaking 'Al Noor in Culture' Forum, along with a fresh cultural and visual identity, during a press conference held at its headquarters in Muscat. The event was attended by media representatives, artists, intellectuals and officials from various institutions.
The forum, aligned with the efforts of the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, marks the first event of its kind in the Arab world dedicated to people with visual impairments.
It will bring together over 100 participants from 14 Arab countries to showcase the creative talents of visually impaired individuals across literature, music, theatre and fine arts.
Dr Raed Al Farsi, Chairman of Al Noor Association and Head of the Forum, described the initiative as a 'qualitative leap in empowering visually impaired individuals,' adding: “Through this forum, we aim to deliver the message of visually impaired creators to the local and Arab community and highlight their talents beyond stereotypes.”
Since its establishment in 1997, Al Noor Association has focused on the cultural and social empowerment of people with visual impairments in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
Imran al Rahbi, Head of the Events Committee, said the forum will run from October 19 to 23, featuring seven specialised sessions, theatrical and musical performances, and an art exhibition with participation from artists in Oman and across the Arab world, including Egypt, Iraq and Algeria.
Mohammed al Arfi unveiled the forum’s new visual identity, featuring four vibrant icons representing theatre, music, literature and art — symbolising the creativity and energy of visually impaired youth.
Khamis al Salti, Chairman of the Organising Committee and a visually impaired individual, expressed optimism about the forum, saying it provides a 'valuable platform for people with disabilities to express their talents and ambitions.'
He stressed the importance of creating spaces that unite individuals with disabilities, enabling them to discover and develop their potential while celebrating excellence and creativity.
The closing ceremony will be presided over by Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, underlining Oman’s strong commitment to empowering people with disabilities. Organisers said the 'Al Noor in Culture' Forum will serve as a pioneering Arab platform for creativity and empowerment, strengthening the cultural presence of visually impaired individuals and amplifying their voices to decision-makers across the region.
