MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has welcomed the efforts led by the United States of America, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, to halt the war in the Gaza Strip and reach an agreement that ends the suffering of the Palestinian people and guarantees their legitimate rights.

Oman also welcomed the response of Hamas to the proposal, which paves the way for a complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, creates conditions for reconstruction, prevents the displacement of the Palestinian people and supports efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace.

While underlining its confidence in the efforts made by all countries to find a peaceful and lasting solution in Gaza, Oman expressed hope that these efforts would result in the urgent and effective delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians and the establishment of a peace based on the two-state solution. This, Oman affirmed, would ensure the Palestinian people can establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the principles of international law.

Meanwhile, some 137 activists detained by Israel for taking part in a flotilla seeking to deliver aid to Gaza arrived in Istanbul on Saturday after being deported, according reporters at the airport.

The individuals included 36 Turkish nationals, as well as citizens from the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Morocco, Italy, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Switzerland, Tunisia and Jordan, ministry sources added.

The Turkish Airlines flight landed at Istanbul Airport.

Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said 26 Italians were on board, with another 15 still held in Israel and set to be expelled over the next few days - along with activists from other nations.

Israel has faced international condemnation after its military intercepted all of about 40 boats in a flotilla carrying aid to Gaza and detained more than 450 activists.

"I have once again given instructions to the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv to ensure that the remaining compatriots are treated with respect for their rights", Tajani wrote on X. SEE ALSO P6
