Muscat: Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Vice President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) visited the Muttrah Souq (market) and Al Mirani Fort this evening, as part of his current working visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

While touring through the Muttrah Souq, the visiting guest explored its diverse ancient and modern wares, including handicrafts such as silverwork and Khanjars (traditional daggers), traditional weapons, fabrics, Omani halwa (sweet), and various spices. He also observed the souq's various alleyways and decorations, which are inspired by the authentic Omani environment and utilize local materials that maintain its traditional character.

During his visit to Al Mirani Fort, the guest toured its facilities, which house ancient heritage collections and artifacts. He listened to a brief explanation of the fort's history, the key events it witnessed over different eras, and was offered Omani hospitality while enjoying the panoramic view of the Sea of Oman, where the sea meets the towering mountains in a stunning natural landscape, in addition to seeing the old architectural remnants of the historic quarters of Muscat.
