SALALAH: The Arab Youth Climate Action Forum 2025 opened on Saturday at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah.
Organised by the Madad Development Foundation with support from the Environment Authority, the forum runs until September 30 and gathers around 200 young participants from across the Arab world.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.
In his address, the Environment Authority reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to climate action and youth engagement in shaping environmental solutions. The Madad Development Foundation outlined the forum’s vision and objectives, while the United Nations Population Fund highlighted its role in empowering youth and advancing sustainable development in the region.
The ceremony also featured a dialogue session titled 'Youth as a Catalyst for Arab Climate Solutions in the World,' with experts and representatives of international organisations emphasising the pivotal role of youth in driving collaborative climate action.
The programme includes plenary sessions, interactive workshops and policy dialogues on pressing climate issues. Key topics will cover sustainable transportation in the Arab world, the role of digital transformation in climate adaptation, decarbonising the industrial sector, and advancing climate justice, biodiversity and the rights of indigenous peoples.
As a high-impact, youth-led regional platform, the forum aims to strengthen comprehensive and effective climate action across the Arab region. — ONA
