SUHAR, SEPT 27

Al Batinah North is witnessing a surge of inspiring youth-led initiatives, reflecting the determination of young people to shape their communities and strengthen national identity.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and operating under the Directorate-General of Youth, Culture and Sports, these projects are transforming passion into impact across multiple fields.

One standout initiative is Kaffa’ah – Towards Empowering Youth in Professional Crafts, led by Ibrahim al Matrooshi. The project revives both traditional and modern crafts while linking them to market opportunities. “Our workshops are not only about skills like wood carving or fragrance making,” said Al Matrooshi. “They prepare youth to transform crafts into sustainable businesses that benefit both culture and the economy.”

Empowering women is the focus of the Hemam Nawaem Cultural Initiative, supervised by Sumaiya al Kumia. Through psychological awareness programmes, reading circles and elderly care workshops, it has become a hub for dialogue and creativity. “We want women to be active contributors to cultural and social growth while preserving values and identity,” Al Kumia explained.

In the health sector, “Let’s Be With Them Hackathon,” led by Anoud al Muzaini, raises cancer awareness and builds support networks for patients and survivors. Campaigns, marathons and dialogue sessions spread a simple yet powerful message: “Cancer is not the end of life,” Al Muzaini stressed.

Meanwhile, 'Sayes' introduces youth to politics through simulations, debates, and training. Guided by Rodayna al Balushi and Ibrahim al Matrooshi, it equips participants with leadership and critical thinking skills to become active citizens.

Another standout project, Jahez (Ready), founded by Abdulrahman al Mazroui, prepares job seekers for the labour market through workshops such as Master the Art of Charisma and personal development sessions. “We want participants to leave not just with job skills, but with the mindset of leaders ready to serve their nation,” Al Mazroui noted.

Equally impactful is ‘The Dream Continues,’ created by Shaima al Fazari, which promotes reading competitions, cultural programmes and national forums. “Our journey shows that persistence leads to real results,” Al Fazari shared.

According to Ahmed al Maqbali, Head of the Youth Department at the Directorate, the steady growth of such initiatives reflects the maturity and creativity of Omani youth. “Every year, we see more innovative projects seeking support. From culture to crafts, health, politics, and employment, youth are not waiting for change — they are creating it,” he said.

With logistical and knowledge-based backing from the ministry, these initiatives highlight the resilience of Oman’s younger generation, showing that the future is already being shaped by their hands.
