NEW YORK: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, held a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Arab and friendly countries on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.


Sayyid Badr met with Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. During the meeting, they discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and cultural fields. The two ministers exchanged views on regional and international developments, emphasising that international dialogue and cooperation are essential for addressing common challenges and achieving regional and global security and peace.


The Foreign Minister also met with Dr Shaya Mohsin Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen.


During this meeting, the two sides affirmed the deep fraternal relations and historical ties between the two countries, expressing support for bilateral cooperation. They stressed the importance of supporting dialogue and diplomacy to achieve a lasting peace in Yemen.


Moreover, the Foreign Minister met with Dr Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. The two ministers reaffirmed the strong fraternal relations between the two countries and the continuous cooperation and coordination in all fields. They stressed the need for Arab and international solidarity to take a firm stance against the ongoing Israeli escalation that threatens the region's security and stability, calling for the activation of international mechanisms to enforce international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.


Sayyid Badr also met with Hadja Lahbib, European Union Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management. The two sides highlighted the importance of upholding international law, justice and equality on all issues, especially the Palestinian cause. They also emphasised ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip. Both sides affirmed their shared desire to enhance cooperation and coordination between Oman and the EU, exchange expertise in humanitarian and other fields, and continue supporting international efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.


Furthermore, the Foreign Minister met with Yván Eduardo Gil Pinto, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. They highlighted the importance of exploring new partnership opportunities in the energy, agriculture, mining and investment sectors.


The two ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest, underscoring the need for coordination in multilateral forums and fostering dialogue to support international peace and security and address challenges related to food security, climate change and sustainable development. Both sides confirmed their shared position on respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, considering this a fundamental pillar for promoting stability and mutual respect-based international cooperation.


Moreover, the Foreign Minister met with Touhid Hossain, Adviser for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.


The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on diplomatic training during their meeting.


They affirmed the importance of enhancing diplomatic cooperation through the exchange of expertise, visits and joint training programmes. They also reviewed bilateral relations and promising partnership areas, confirming the mutual desire to develop them to serve common interests.


Further, the Foreign Minister met with Dr Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.


This meeting focused on the existing relations and their shared commitment to developing cooperation and partnerships to serve the mutual interests of their friendly peoples. The meeting also addressed the latest developments in the regional arena. Both sides stressed the importance of coordination and consultation on various current issues and supporting all efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through dialogue and peaceful means, thereby contributing to establishing security, stability, and a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
