

MUSCAT: Oman’s consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.5% in August 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, based on the 2018 reference year.
The average inflation rate from January to August 2025 also rose by 0.8%, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The data showed that the miscellaneous goods and services category recorded the highest increase at 6.0%, followed by transport at 2.7%, and restaurants and hotels at 2.5%. Health rose by 0.8%, clothing and footwear by 0.4%; and education by 0.1%.
In contrast, food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 1.8%, culture and recreation by 0.2%, and furniture, household equipment, and maintenance by 0.1%. Prices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, communications; and tobacco remained stable.
The average inflation rate for miscellaneous goods and services in Oman from January to August 2025 was around 6.2%.
Regarding food and non-alcoholic beverages in August 2025 compared to August 2024, some subcategories saw increases: other food products rose 3.7%, sugar, jams, honey, and confectionery increased 3.2%, and oils and fats went up 2.2%. Milk, cheese, and eggs rose 1.1%, meat 0.6%; and bread and cereals slightly increased by 0.3%.
Meanwhile, prices for vegetables fell 14.6%, fruits 3.1%, fish 2.1% and non-alcoholic beverages slightly decreased by 0.2%.
At the governorate level, Al Dhahirah Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate of 1.1% by the end of August 2025 compared to the same period last year, followed by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate at 1.0% and Muscat Governorate at 0.6%.
Al Buraimi Governorate recorded 0.4%, Musandam Governorate 0.3%, and Al Batinah North Governorate, Al Batinah South Governorate and Al Sharqiyah South Governorate each 0.2%. Al Wusta Governorate and Dhofar Governorate recorded 0.1%, while Al Sharqiyah North Governorate saw no change. — ONA
