Jasim claims final stage as Van Engelen strikes gold

UAE cyclist Abdulla Jasim won the concluding stage of the Salalah International Tour 2025 as Adne van Engelen (+2.41) of Terengganu Cycling Team (Malaysia) clinched the overall leader’s golden jersey in Salalah on Wednesday.


The young UAE rider came home in 03:03:37 followed by Shoma Kazama (Shimano Racing Team – Japan) and Mathias Bregnhoj (Terengganu Cycling Team) in second and third spots. The first 12 riders posted the same time including Van Engelen in ninth position in a sprint finish at Wadi Darbat. The 120.3 km stage started from Dahariz Beach.


Jasim won the green jersey for the overall points classification with 37 points and the white jersey for the best young rider (13:10:52) to make it a memorable event by winning the opening and closing stages.


Hosts Oman were cheered up by Mohammed al Wuhaibi, who clinched the grey jersey for the most aggressive rider classification with 14 points, Al Wuhaibi had also won the same jersey in the first stage.


Amani Team of Slovenia (09:10:57) emerged as the best team of the final stage.


Dutch rider Van Engelen completed his overall triumph by clocking 13:09:46 while Jasim came second (+1:06) and Bregnhoj (+1:25) finished third.


Rojai Insurance (Thailand) took the overall team crown with a timing of 39:36:46. Terengganu Cycling Team (+5:43) were second and Thailand National Team (7:29) came third.


Engineer Ammar Obaid Ghawas, Director of the Events Department at Dhofar Municipality, and Saif bin Sebaa al Rashidi, Chairman of the Oman Cycling Association, crowned the winners in the concluding ceremony.


This year’s fifth edition of Tour of Salalah featured 15 regional and international teams from Asia, Europe and the Gulf.


Among them are Oman National Team, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Thailand, and continental teams including Madar Pro (Algeria), Terengganu Cycling (Malaysia), Amani (Slovenia), Victoria Sports Pro (Philippines), Shimano Racing (Japan) and Flanders (Belgium).
