Dutch rider Adne van Engelen bagged the laurels in the second stage to claim the overall lead of Salalah International Cycling Tour 2025 in Salalah on Monday.
Van Engelen of Terengganu Cycling Team – Malaysia came first in the 132 km-long second stage from Taqah Castle to Hajif with a time of three hours 44 minutes and seven seconds.
Ethiopian cyclist Tekle Alemayo of Team Amani – Slovenia (+01.12) took second spot and Brazil’s Nicolas Sessler of Victoria Sports Pro Cycling – Philippines (+01.19) finished third.
With the result, Van Engelen took the overall leader’s yellow jersey sponsored by Dhofar Municipality and the green jersey (sponsored by Mohsin Haider Darwish Company) for the points leader after the first two stages.
Terengganu Cycling Team – Malaysia (19:13:16) emerged the best team ahead of Roojai Insurance (+1.28) and UAE National Team (+6).
Algerian Yacine Hamza of Madar Pro Cycling Team – Algeria (+14.00) won the grey jersey for the aggressive rider, sponsored by Badr Al Samaa Hospital.
Stage 1 winner Abdullah Jassim of UAE National Team bagged the white jersey (Under-23 leader), sponsored by Oasis Oman. Youngster Abdullah was the holder of yellow, green and white jerseys after the first stage.
The picturesque stage two started from Taqah Castle, passing through Taqah and Mirbat, then Mirbat Waterfalls, Mirbat Beach, Mirbat Castle, Mirbat Sand Dunes, back to Taqah Roundabout, then to Nasheeb Roundabout, Hamran, Al-Ma’moura Roundabout, Sahnoot Road, Hashir Roundabout, Hajif Park, Jalut Mosque, before finishing at Hajif.
The top winners were crowned by Saif bin Saba’ al Rashidi, Chairman of the Oman Cycling Association.
Mazin al Riyami (+11.05) of Oman National Team, who ended 39th was the best finishing local cyclist in Stage 2 among the 81 riders who attended the race. Other Omani riders, Munder al Hasani (+11.17) came in 43rd position while Said al Rahbi (+14) finished in the 53rd spot.
The penultimate third stage will run for 154 km from Souq Al Hafa to Ayn Ishat on Tuesday.
