

SUR: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has completed the rehabilitation and improvement of Falaj Al Jila in the Wilayat of Sur in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate. It is one of five aflaj listed on the Unesco World Heritage List.
The restoration of Falaj Al Jila, located in the Village of Al Jila in the Wilayat of Sur, involved restoring the collection basin and rehabilitating the 150-metre-long channel, constructing a parallel path, restoring some parts of the bridges carrying the water channel to the farms and constructing a ramp for the wall supporting the channel cutting across the wadi.
Eng Salah bin Salem al Mahajri, Head of the Dams, Aflaj, and Protective Walls Department at the Water Resources Department of the Directorate-General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, said that the aflaj in the Sultanate of Oman are not just a source of water, but an integrated lifestyle that has over the centuries contributed to the prosperity of agriculture and the stability of local communities. — ONA
