MUSCAT: UAE national team rider Mohammad al Mutaiwei claimed victory in the first-ever “Dhofar Classic” cycling race, finishing with a time of 04:20:44. His team-mate Abdulla Jasmi secured second place, crossing the line in 04:22:29, while Tegshbayar Batsaikhan of Roojai Insurance (ROI) clinched third, also with a time of 04:22:29. The UAE National Team topped the team classification with an aggregate time of 13:08:13.


The 174-kilometre race started from Al Mughsail and passed through Raysut roundabout, Fish roundabout, Taitam, Salalah Madinat roundabout, Taitam sub-centre, Qayroon Hairiti, Zeek exit, and the town of Al Haq, before concluding at the scenic Darbat waterfalls.


The awarding ceremony was held under the auspices of Amarjeet Singh Gill, President of the Asian Cycling Confederation, and Saif al Rashidi, Chairman of the Oman Cycling Association (OCA).


Classified as a category one single-day race in Asia, the Dhofar Classic awarded 125 global ranking points to the winner. The Oman Cycling Association has set its sights on elevating the race to Pro Series status in upcoming editions, which would boost the winner’s tally to 200 points and attract a larger field of international champions.

Beyond the competition, the Dhofar Classic showcased Oman’s organisational excellence and stunning landscapes from green mountains to smooth technical roads and iconic landmarks,, reinforcing Dhofar’s status as both a sporting and tourism destination.


SALALAH INTERNATIONAL CYCLING TOUR 2025 KICKS OFF TODAY WITH 15 TEAMS


The first stage of the Salalah International Cycling Tour 2025 kicks off today in its fifth edition, organised by Dhofar Municipality in partnership with the Oman Cycling Association (OCA) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), from September 7 to 10.


The opening stage starts from Ain Razat and ends at Khor Rori, covering a distance of 108 kilometres, with the participation of 15 teams, including Gulf and Asian national teams alongside prominent continental teams from Europe and Asia.


This year’s tour is held amid the khareef season in Dhofar, combining sporting competition with tourism promotion, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to make sports a pillar of sustainable development.
