MUSCAT: Oman is fast-tracking its national agenda for comprehensive development, placing the education sector at the heart of its transformation to achieve Oman Vision 2040. Central to this effort is the digital transformation of schools, aimed at building an innovative, sustainable education system that delivers high-quality smart services to students.

The Ministry of Education continues to enhance educational systems and infrastructure, developing Internet services, electronic systems and interactive applications, while providing smart boards and launching several digital transformation initiatives.

Dr Faisal bin Ali al Busaidy, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Information Technology, said that the ministry has established the National Team for Artificial Intelligence under the Digital Transformation Committee.

This team is preparing an executive programme to integrate AI into education, aiming to improve curricula, personalise learning and automate administrative processes.

The e-learning system and digital repository project has completed its first two phases, reaching 578 schools, with teacher access at 96 per cent and student access at 65 per cent. The third phase, now underway, will expand to 730 schools across 11 governorates, aiming to activate all Noor system services while ensuring close monitoring and support for teachers and students.

A highlight of the digital transformation is the introduction of interactive smart boards in schools. These boards combine digital whiteboard functionality, display screens, and remote collaboration tools, supporting AI-powered handwriting recognition, cloud-based content, and multimedia integration for a more engaging and personalised learning experience.

Oman’s focus on digital education ensures that students gain modern skills and capabilities, preparing them for an innovative and advanced educational and professional future.

The ministry is also working closely with educators and parents to ensure that digital tools are effectively integrated into daily learning.

Training programmes for teachers focus on leveraging technology to enhance lesson delivery, assess student progress and foster interactive classroom experiences.

By empowering teachers with modern tools, the ministry aims to create an education ecosystem that encourages creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
