MUSCAT: Construction has commenced on the first school in Sultan Haitham City, District 9, designed to accommodate more than 1,400 students and become a landmark in the city’s educational landscape.
The school will feature 90 classrooms, eight science laboratories, six art and technology rooms, and integrated sports facilities—providing a modern environment that fosters academics, sports, arts, innovation, and creativity.
Sultan Haitham City follows an integrated educational model. The first phase includes three modern educational complexes, each housing three schools with a combined capacity exceeding 2,300 students.
These schools are strategically located within a ten-minute radius of residential areas and offer vibrant environments that merge academics with extracurricular activities, including playgrounds, green spaces, swimming pools, and creative zones.
Designed as extensions of the local community, the complexes include shared spaces such as cafeterias, multipurpose rooms, and break areas. Sustainability is also central, with green rooftop gardens serving as outdoor learning and recreational areas, enhancing thermal insulation while providing a healthy and engaging environment for students.
Faten bint Hamoud Al Harthi, urban planner and architectural designer at the Executive Office for Future Cities at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, emphasized that Sultan Haitham City aims to create next-generation educational environments that transcend traditional school buildings, integrating schools into the city’s urban fabric.
She added: “These educational projects, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, offer an integrated model for public and private school complexes."
"With the first private school now under construction and two others in preparation, a new educational experience is taking shape—one that will eventually extend across governorates in the Sultanate, making schools a central element of modern urban development.”
As the new academic year begins, Sultan Haitham City exemplifies an integrated urban model that redefines education in Oman, with modern schools and complexes designed to meet future aspirations and place students at the heart of the learning experience. - ONA
