The workshop for coaches of basketball training centres, organised on Friday by the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, witnessed strong participation from 14 national coaches. The event was part of the association’s efforts to unify training curricula and concepts while enhancing the technical capabilities of coaches, ultimately reflecting positively on the performance of players across training centres in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The workshop opened with a speech by Abubakar al Jahwri, Vice-President of the Association and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee, who stressed that this workshop represents an important step within the association’s strategy to develop centers and prepare qualified coaching staff scientifically and practically. He emphasised that investing in coaches is a direct investment in the future of Omani basketball. Al Jahwri added that such workshops help unify operational approaches among different centres, address field practices and challenges, and create opportunities for exchanging experiences and strengthening communication with the technical administration, all contributing to raising the quality of work and building a strong foundation for the future of the sport. He also affirmed the association’s commitment to continuing training programmes and meetings with coaches as part of a comprehensive plan to develop and refine their skills.

For his part, Abdullah Mohammed Fouad, General Coach of the centres, explained that the workshop combined theoretical and practical aspects, enabling coaches to translate concepts into hands on practices on the court. This, he said, reinforces consistency in training methods and ensures integration between the different centres.

The workshop addressed several key topics, including presenting the annual plan and its implementation mechanisms, conducting practical training on preparing training units, and discussing field observations gathered from previous visits. It also worked on strengthening communication mechanisms and encouraging the exchange of expertise between coaches and the technical management.

Commenting on the event, Ghassan bin Muhasin al Busaidi, General Coordinator of the centres, noted that the committee attaches great importance to continuous training and qualification, highlighting that these workshops serve as a crucial platform for exchanging knowledge and tackling challenges, thereby helping to build a solid base of talented players.

Meanwhile, Majid al Balushi, coach of the Salalah Club Centre, affirmed that such training programmes are a vital necessity for coaches, as they boost their abilities and enable them to deliver higher quality sessions aligned with the association’s developmental vision and future plans.
