Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) announced on Wednesday the start of the shrimp fishing season in the Sultanate of Oman for this year, beginning on Monday, September 1 and continuing until the end of Sunday, November 30.
The ministry stressed the importance of fishermen adhering strictly to the regulations governing shrimp fishing. Only licensed gear locally known as (al-ghadf) will be permitted, while the use of unlicensed tools, equipment, or methods remains prohibited.
The precautionary measures are designed to safeguard fish stocks and protect the marine environment. The ministry warned that violators would be subject to legal procedures and penalties as prescribed by law.
