SAINT PETERSBURG: The Sultanate of Oman won a gold and a bronze medal in the finals of the PhotOlympic 2025 held in St Petersburg, Russia, with the participation of 96 photographers from more than 15 countries around the world.
Photographer Ali bin Hamad al Ghafri won the gold medal in the long exposure category for his photograph titled 'I am Still Waiting'. Photographer Mahmoud bin Mohammed al Jabri won the bronze medal in the reflection category for his visual photograph titled 'Yellow Reflection'.
The organising committee, affiliated with the non-profit organisation The Professional Photographers Association, laid down strict conditions on participants requiring them to complete and submit their work within 24 hours. This posed a great challenge for the photographers, testing their technical readiness and flexibility while working under pressure.
This success was the outcome of a rich artistic career, during which the two photographers underwent three advanced selection stages, submitting 16 images across four main categories, before reaching the finals to represent the Sultanate of Oman at this prestigious international event. Besides, it reflects the strong presence of Omani photographers in international photography and attests to the professional level they attained in the art of photography. — ONA
