MUSCAT: The Oman national football team began the crucial overseas training camp at the prestigious Fenerbahce Lefter Kucukandonyadis Sports Complex in Türkiye. The eight-day training camp is part of the team’s preparatory programme for the Cafa Nations League 2025, which will take place later this month and the decisive round of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 2026, which will be hosted in Qatar in October.
The camp marks a pivotal phase in Oman’s journey towards the high-stake AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 2026. Following three successful domestic training sessions under coach Carlos Queiroz in Muscat, the team is now transitioning to a more intensive overseas programme designed to elevate their performance in training, team cohesion and match-readiness.
Waleed al Numani, Director of the National Teams at Oman Football Association (OFA), said, "The national team players arrived in Fenerbahce Lefter Kucukandonyadis Sports Complex to commence their training sessions. As many as 25 players out of 30 players joined the team, while the other five professional players may join the team later in Türkiye or in Uzbekistan for the Cafa Nations League 2025 event."
In the coming days, Oman will leverage the facility’s assets with multiple daily training sessions focused on physical conditioning, tactical implementation and team unity. The camp may also include a friendly match.
Fenerbahce's Lefter Complex has hosted various national teams preparing for international competitions. It is an international standard facility ensuring that world-class teams can pursue both fitness and strategic development in one location. As the Red Warriors learn from this environment, players and coaching staff can engage in tactical simulations, recovery sessions and comprehensive press and broadcast facilities — all contributing to a high-performance mindset.
Following the Türkiye warm-up gathering, the national team will head to Uzbekistan to compete in the Cafa Nations League 2025, where they will face hosts Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. These competitive fixtures will allow Queiroz to rotate his squad efficiently, assess performance under tournament conditions, and refine his game plan ahead of October’s qualifiers against Qatar and the UAE in Doha.
The Red Warriors are now firmly positioned for a challenging journey ahead. The team are poised to advance towards their historic goal by qualifying for the Fifa World Cup for the very first time.
