IBRI: A rescue excavation carried out by the Department of Heritage and Tourism in the Al Dhahirah Governorate has uncovered archaeological finds in Al Sabikhi area in the Wilayat of Ibri.
Waleed bin Awad al Ghafri, an Archaeology Specialist at the Department of Heritage and Tourism in Al Dhahirah Governorate, indicated that the survey and excavation work has resulted in the documentation of 25 archaeological graves dating back to the third millennium BC.
The excavations also revealed the remains of skeletal structures and complete pottery vessels inside the burial chambers, some of which were imported from the Jemdet Nasr civilisation in Mesopotamia (Iraq).
In addition, beads from the Bronze Age, made of stone and shells, were discovered.
He added that a team of specialists and archaeology experts from within and outside Oman is handling the discovered artefacts in preparation for their study and preservation according to standard procedures. — ONA
