The Sultanate of Oman will witness a total lunar eclipse on September 7,  which is expected to be lasting nearly for more than an hour.

The Oman Society for Astronomy and Space will make facilities for observing the event at several key locations in Muscat on September 7.

According to timeanddate.com, the partial lunar eclipse will start in Oman around 8.27 pm, the full eclipse around 9.30 pm, and the peak at 10.11 pm.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and the Moon are aligned in a straight line or with Earth blocking sunlight from reaching the Moon and creating a shadow across the lunar surface.

Light from the Sun illuminates the full disc of the Moon, but because Earth is in the way, that sunlight has to pass through Earth's atmosphere before hitting the Moon.

According to space.com,  Skywatchers across Asia and Western Australia will get the best view of the Sept. 7 total lunar eclipse from start to finish, but those in Europe, Africa, eastern Australia, and New Zealand may still catch a glimpse of the moon during some of the eclipse phases, including totality.

The best views of the September 2025 total lunar eclipse will be in Asia and western Australia. According to Time and Date, 77% of the world's population, or about 6.2 billion people, will be able to see all of totality.
