MUSCAT: Syed Shaandar Ali Shah Bukhari, a long-time resident of Muscat and Pakistani national, has been appointed as the Honorary President of the International Human Rights Movement (IHRM), Sultanate of Oman.

The IHRM, founded in Bristol, UK, is a non-political, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights worldwide. Since its official registration in Europe in 2007, the organisation has expanded its presence to over 60 countries, serving as a unified platform for justice, equality, and human dignity, transcending all barriers of race, religion, and ethnicity.

Bukhari is widely recognised for his active involvement in humanitarian efforts. His appointment reflects his longstanding contributions to social welfare and human rights advocacy, particularly among underprivileged and marginalised communities. “Though this is an honorary position, I consider it a serious commitment,” Bukhari said.

“I aim to collaborate closely with local human rights chapters and extend support wherever possible, whether it's facilitating the repatriation and release of prisoners, assisting the destitute, or offering help to the sick and needy.”

He expressed his intention to use this platform to inspire and involve the youth in humanitarian causes. “I believe in empowering the next generation to become champions of justice and compassion. Together, we can work toward a more inclusive and humane society,” he added.

Bukhari’s appointment is seen as a positive step toward strengthening Oman’s role in the international human rights movement and expanding grassroots-level impact within Oman.
