Muscat: The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, has issued safety specifications for school bags to help protect students from back and shoulder strain.

The guidelines recommend that school bags be lightweight, preferably made of fabric, and feature a thick, flexible back support with small ventilation openings. The bag should have multiple compartments to help distribute weight evenly.

Shoulder straps should be wide, adjustable, and padded with soft material to reduce pressure on the shoulders.

The width of the bag should not exceed the student’s body width, and its length should suit the length of the torso. The bottom of the bag should rest about 5 cm above the waist.

Additionally, the ministries advised that school bags include an adjustable waist belt to secure the bag close to the body, allowing for better weight distribution across the torso.

These recommendations aim to ensure students’ safety and comfort during daily school use.
