Oman’s topographical nature offers a great diversity of tourist destinations. Despite high temperatures and humidity in some areas, other regions experience moderate climates, particularly those located in mountainous areas or along the eastern coast of the Arabian Sea. ‘Khawr Jirama’, which extends along the eastern coast, is considered one of Oman’s most important wetlands.

This site is distinguished by its mountainous bay formations and the tranquillity and cleanliness of its turquoise beaches. The site's importance extends beyond this. Media sources note that this ‘Khawr’ has deep historical value, having been and continues to be a haven for large and small ships sailing toward the Gulf States, India and East Africa.

Historical sources indicate that the area was considered a natural anchorage for unloading goods from ships, due to its distance from the sea waves, especially in the summer when the waves and winds reach their highest levels.

Sailors then find safety, comfort, and peace of mind in ‘Khawr Jirama’. For these combined reasons, Khawr Jirama has gained a good reputation due to its strategic location and its pioneering role in the prosperity of trade in Oman and neighbouring countries.

Due to the warm and calm waters of the ‘Khawr’ and the growth of hundreds of mangrove plants, ‘Al Seera Island’ which is located in the middle of the creek, hosts large flocks of seabirds. The depths of the water are home to dozens of species of small fish, especially sardines, in addition to shrimp and sharks.

This is in addition to the influx of large numbers of sea turtles that search for nesting places on the warm sands of the ‘Khawr’. The people of Ras Al Hadd built a tower on the outskirts of the ‘Khawr’ to mark its entrance.

This tower had guards, and there was a maritime law that regulated the entry and exit of ships docked in this place. The ‘Khawr’ is a beautiful fishing area with a unique natural formation. It is frequented by many tourists from all over the world who enjoy its beautiful, tranquil atmosphere, play sports, go fishing, and enjoy leisure activities.

Official authorities are continuing their efforts to develop the site into an exceptional area that attracts tourism and entertainment investments. To promote ecotourism programmes, a number of floating chalets have been built over the past few years.

The construction of these chalets complies with the environmental requirements issued by the Environment Authority. ‘Khawr Jirama’ floating chalets are located in a quiet area with a moderate climate and distinctive sea terrain.

Surrounded by mountains, they are protected from strong winds and high waves. All chalets are equipped with security and safety equipment to ensure the highest levels of safety for tourists visiting this exceptional location.

Tourists describe the trip to ‘Khawr Jirama’ as unique and exceptional. The experience of visiting these chalets is a novelty among tourist facilities in Oman. Locals urge all tourists to maintain the cleanliness and tranquillity of the area to avoid any impact on the geological and biological elements.
