MUSCAT: The recent fatal accident in the Wilayat of Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate, has once again sparked calls from road users to improve the road design in the Al Rahba area. Known as an accident-prone spot, the steep descent combined with a sharp turn poses a serious hazard to both trucks and light vehicles.

Rescue teams in Al Dhahirah Governorate responded to a collision between two trucks in Al Rahba, resulting in three deaths and one critical injury. Victims received emergency care at the scene before being transferred to the hospital.

Local residents voiced their concerns: “This stretch is unsafe and unsuitable for vehicles. We suffer from its danger daily and urge authorities to change the route”, said Abu Abdulaziz al Maamari. Saif al Kalbani emphasised, “This street needs to be reorganised”. Hilal al Maamari added, “Lives have been lost here before. We urgently need a solution”.

Ibri, the centre of Al Dhahirah Governorate and a key regional hub, sees heavy traffic due to its strategic location connecting Oman with neighbouring countries and trade routes. Recent infrastructure developments, including a new road to Saudi Arabia and a major public park project, underline the importance of safe and efficient transport networks.

Given the history of accidents, residents and travellers alike hope the authorities will prioritise redesigning this perilous road section to ensure safer travel for all.
