

Muscat: Nizwa and Muttrah Forts are among the most visited castles and forts in the Sultanate of Oman, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Muttrah Fort received 144,620 visitors in 2024 compared to 136,64 visitors in 2023 and 39,707 visitors in 2022.
Nizwa Fort received 240,016 visitors compared to 196,615 visitors in 2023 and 193,194 in 2022.
Among other landmarks, the Bahla Fort received 87,955 visitors, the Suhar Fort 17,314 visitors, the Nakhal Fort 36,012 visitors, and the Al Hazem Castle 16,794 visitors.
Overall, castles and forts received 670,875 visitors in 2024, compared to 558,323 in 2023 and 381,233 in 2022. Of these, 18,114 were students, 12,798 were official delegates.
The number of visitors, excluding students and official delegates, was 639,963 in 2024 compared to 536,850 in 2023.
Muttrah Fort
In 2024, the top months to receive visitors to forts and castles were January (125,514), November (118,555), December (99,671), February (85,193), April (51,166), October (45,329), March (44,420), August (25,884) and September (21,291), and May (21,405).
It may be noted that the management of the Muttrah and Nizwa forts has been assigned to the private sector to boost facilities at these landmarks, which will help generate income for the economy.
Museums
In addition, private museums received 752,974 visitors, including 89,804 official delegates, while government museums received 617,840 visitors, including 85,961 official delegates, in 2024.
