Salalah: In a major crackdown on unauthorized commercial practices, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has seized more than 400 used and expired tires in the Dhofar Governorate. The operation is part of the CPA’s continued surveillance campaigns to protect consumers from hazardous and substandard products in the market.
Officials from the CPA carried out the inspection at a tire trading location, uncovering a significant stock of worn-out and expired tires that were allegedly being prepared for resale. Images released by the authority showed inspectors closely examining the stockpile of tires during the raid.
In a statement, the CPA emphasized that the seizure aligns with its strategic objective to eliminate unsafe goods from the market and uphold consumer safety. “The campaign aims to combat the spread of unauthorized products and illegal commercial behavior, which endanger lives and undermine consumer confidence,” the authority said.
The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and sustainable consumer environment in Oman. It warned that any traders found in violation of consumer protection laws would face strict legal action.
The CPA urged consumers to remain vigilant and report suspicious practices to its official channels, reminding the public that expired tires pose serious road safety hazards, especially in the summer months when tire failures can have fatal consequences.
