MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman's trade balance recorded a surplus of RO 2.454 billion by the end of May 2025, a 38.5 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded a surplus of RO 3.989 billion.
Preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed a 9.6 per cent decrease in the total value of merchandise exports, reaching RO 9.639 billion by the end of May 2025, compared to RO 10.659 billion during the same period in 2024.
This decline is primarily attributed to a 15.2 per cent decline in Oman's oil and gas exports, reaching RO 6.315 billion by the end of May 2025, compared to RO 7.444 billion during the same period in 2024.
Conversely, Oman's non-oil commodity exports witnessed a significant growth of 7.2 per cent, reaching RO 2.701 billion by the end of May 2025, compared to RO 2.521 billion during the same period in 2024.
Re-exports from Oman registered a 10.3 per cent decline by the end of May 2025, reaching RO 623 million, compared to RO 695 million during the same period in 2024.
The data showed a 7.7 per cent increase in the total value of merchandise imports to the Sultanate of Oman, reaching RO 7.185 billion by the end of May 2025, compared to RO 6.670 billion during the same period in 2024.
On the other hand, the United Arab Emirates topped the list of non-oil trade exchanges by the end of May 2025, with exports to it reaching RO 485 million, achieving a growth of 22.9 per cent compared to the end of May 2024. It also topped the list of countries to which the Sultanate of Oman re-exported, with RO 248 million, and also topped the list of countries exporting to the Sultanate of Oman, with imports from it reaching RO 1.651 billion.
Saudi Arabia ranked second among Oman's non-oil exports, with a value of RO 451 million, followed by India with RO 280 million. In terms of re-exports, Iran ranked second with a value of RO 109 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with RO 45 million.
Among the countries exporting to the Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait ranked second with imports worth RO 731 million, followed by China with RO 698 million. — ONA
