LIWA: As part of a strategic effort to foster entrepreneurial thinking and empower the next generation of innovators in Oman, the Office of the Wali of Liwa organised a training workshop titled 'How to Create an Investment Opportunity'.
The workshop, held in Liwa, attracted a diverse group of participants, including job-seekers and owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The workshop was led by Dr Ishaq al Sharyani, an expert in entrepreneurship and economic feasibility.
Dr Al Sharyani guided the participants through an intensive programme designed to instil the knowledge and mindset needed to identify and cultivate meaningful investment projects.
The training focused on four key pillars: understanding what makes a viable investment opportunity, exploring sources of opportunity generation, using creative thinking tools and applying practical steps to turn ideas into reality. The participants engaged in interactive sessions that combined theory with real-world case studies.
Dr Al Sharyani emphasised the untapped potential that exists within Oman’s local economy. “Oman is full of opportunities, but they must be discovered and harnessed through creative problem-solving and a deep understanding of the challenges around us,” he noted. “We must shift from being ‘factories of excuses’ to becoming ‘factories of ideas’ capable of generating solutions anytime, anywhere.”
The participants also explored how to evaluate local challenges and reframe them as potential business ideas. The workshop placed special emphasis on key sectors such as tourism, logistics, agriculture and renewable energy.
One of the participants, Rahma al Ajmi, a budding entrepreneur, shared her experience. “This workshop opened my eyes to the many untapped opportunities in our local market. I’ve learned how to look at problems as business possibilities,” she said. “By the end of the programme, we had learned how to professionally plan projects, bring creative ideas into our communities and add real value to what we do.”
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among participants, many of whom left with fresh ideas, practical tools and a clear road map to begin their entrepreneurial journeys.
The initiative is part of a broader national movement to stimulate homegrown economic development and build a culture of innovation and self-reliance among Omani youth.
