MUSCAT: Upon the high assignment of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, delivered the Sultanate of Oman’s speech on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The speech was published on the organisation’s official platforms.

Sayyid Badr began by conveying the greetings of His Majesty the Sultan to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, along with his best wishes for success in his mission and international efforts.

Sayyid Badr affirmed that Oman joins the international community in marking this historic milestone, driven by a steadfast belief that the United Nations serves as a vital pathway to enhance human well-being, a cornerstone of inter-state relations, a mechanism for conflict resolution, and a guiding light for addressing global challenges while promoting the values of justice and peace.

He noted that this anniversary arrives at a time when the world faces complex crises and instability. Oman hopes the international community will overcome these challenges with renewed determination and stronger solidarity, paving the way for a more secure and stable future.

Sayyid Badr further stressed the urgent need to modernise the UN system and adapt its mechanisms to match contemporary developments.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring that this system reflects a true balance between the voices of the Global North and South, fostering international justice and equitable partnerships. - ONA
