IBRA: A farmer’s forum held in the Governorate of Al Sharqiyah North on Thursday stressed the need to build an integrated agricultural system to enhance green production and activate innovation in the farming sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The participants affirmed that the envisaged system would contribute to national food security and keep pace with trends in sustainable development.

The forum was organised by Al Sharqiyah North Governorate’s branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in partnership with Oman Agricultural Association and a number of private sector companies.

The forum included three working papers. The first addressed the national significance of food security; the second focused on the human aspect of maintaining food security as a life-sustaining factor; and the third highlighted the importance of adopting an integrated pest control management system as a means of securing the safety of agricultural products.

The forum was held under the auspices of Mohammed bin Nasser al Maskari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Sharqiyah North Governorate’s branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and attended by government officials, farmers, business owners and stakeholders in agricultural affairs. - ONA
