Conventional bank credit grows 7.9% in Oman

MUSCAT: Credit activity by conventional commercial banks in Oman continued to grow steadily, with total credit extended rising by 7.9 per cent year-on-year by the end of April 2025, according to data from the Central Bank of Oman.


Credit to the private sector increased by 5.2 per cent, reaching RO 21.3 billion. Meanwhile, total investments in securities by conventional banks grew by 2.1 per cent to RO 5.8 billion. Within this, investment in government development bonds rose by 6.2 per cent to RO 2 billion, while investment in foreign securities declined by 3.7 per cent to RO 2.1 billion.


On the liabilities side, total deposits at conventional commercial banks increased by 6.1 per cent to RO 25.7 billion. Government deposits rose by 6.2 per cent to RO 5.8 billion, while deposits from public sector institutions jumped 11.4 per cent to RO 2.2 billion. Private sector deposits increased by 4.5 per cent to RO 16.8 billion, accounting for 65.2 per cent of total deposits. — ONA
