Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has launched its first tourist hot air balloon as part of the Oman Balloons project, with the inaugural launch taking place in Cappadocia, Türkiye, marking the start of the project’s promotional phase.
The initiative is part of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s efforts to develop and diversify the tourism offering while reinforcing Oman’s position as a distinctive destination both regionally and internationally.
The project aims to attract international expertise in hot air balloon tourism and localise it within the Sultanate, enhancing the diversity of tourism experiences available to visitors. It provides new leisure options for both domestic and international tourists and supports the ministry’s strategy to encourage private sector-led tourism ventures and strengthen public-private partnerships.

Oman Balloon No 1 is set to begin its flights within the Sultanate from the Wilayat of Bidiyah in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The balloon will offer a unique aerial perspective of Oman’s natural beauty and varied tourism landscapes.
The balloon, which has received approval from the Civil Aviation Authority, is specifically designed for Omani weather conditions and can carry up to 20 passengers in addition to the technical crew, comprising a pilot and an assistant.
The Oman Balloons initiative is considered a pioneering project supported by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism due to its active contribution to experiential tourism. By offering panoramic views of Oman’s natural and cultural landmarks, the project seeks to attract travellers in search of innovative and immersive travel experiences.
