

MUSCAT: The "Contemporary Trends in Sports Management" course, organised by the Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), commenced on Monday, at the premises of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC).
The three-day course is part of the Academy’s continuous efforts to develop sports cadres and enhance institutional performance in alignment with Oman’s Sports Strategy and Oman Vision 2040.
The course was inaugurated with a speech by Dr Ishaq bin Ahmed al Balushi, Director of the Oman Olympic Academy, in which he welcomed the attendees and participants. He then highlighted the importance of training for sports institutions, discussed emerging trends and influencing factors in the training process, and how to benefit from them. He also addressed the stages of training and the mechanisms for improving the training process, focusing on three key pillars: the organizing body, the nominating organization, and the participating individual.

With a total of 30 participants, including the participation of people with disabilities from the Omani Committee for the Deaf Sports. This reflects the Academy’s commitment to integrating and involving people with disabilities in its programs and training courses.
The course is delivered by Dr Abdulrahim bin Muslim al Darwishi, Associate Professor of Sports Management and Sports Policy at the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University.

The course aims to enhance the competencies of personnel working in sports entities and institutions by enriching their knowledge of modern trends in sports management. It also seeks to provide them with the tools and enablers that contribute to achieving sports excellence, in addition to presenting successful models that can serve as foundations for promoting a culture of excellence and community engagement in sports.

The course program covers several key topics, most notably contemporary administrative trends aimed at achieving podium success, pillars of athletic achievement, successful models in sports accomplishments and Olympic glory, and the theme of maximizing sports achievement from elite athletes to the broader community. The course also includes several practical applications that reflect the participants’ grasp of the programme content.
