Muscat: The Muscat Municipality announced on Monday that the tallest flagpole as part of the Al Khuwair Square will be inaugurated in four days.
Earlier, Ahmed al Humaidi, chairman of Muscat Municipality, had hinted that the project, developed for 10 million in partnership with the private sector, will be opened in May.
The Al Khuwair Square project in the Ministries District will feature Oman's tallest flagpole, measuring 126 meters in height.
The flagpole will be the highest man-made facility in the history of the Sultanate of Oman, equivalent to a building with 40 floors.
It will be made of iron and also require 135 tonnes of steel.
The outer diameter of the flagpole at the base is 2,800 mm, while the diameter at its highest point is 900 mm. The dimensions of the Omani flag are 18 metres in length and 31.5 metres in width. The flagpole will be provided with a warning lighting system for aircraft.
The project extends over an area of more than 18,000 square meters and will offer a variety of recreational features, such as grass turf, palm trees, paths designated for walking and bicycles, an outdoor exhibition area, and a skateboarding area.
