MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman recorded a 4.3 per cent increase in total electricity production, reaching 5,682.1 gigawatt-hours (GWh) by the end of February 2025, compared to 5,446.2 GWh during the same period in 2024, according to preliminary figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Production in North and South Al Batinah along with Al Dhahirah totalled 3,137.9 GWh – a 5.8 per cent decline. In contrast, Muscat saw a substantial rise in output, increasing by 3,160.9 per cent to 35.5 GWh. Dhofar’s production also grew by 8.5 per cent to 786.6 GWh.
Electricity generation in North and South Al Sharqiyah dropped by 3.1 per cent to 1,256 GWh, while Al Wusta saw a sharp decline of 17.2 per cent to 14.4 GWh. Musandam Governorate, however, recorded a 3.2 per cent increase, producing 49.9 GWh.
Net electricity production – including purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company – rose by 5.1 per cent to 5,522.8 GWh by February 2025.
In terms of water production, output reached 79.16 million cubic metres, a decrease from 81.22 million cubic metres during the same period in 2024. — ONA
