Muscat: The Tax Authority on Sunday signed an agreement with Omantel to implement an electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) system, which comes as part of the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to advance its tax infrastructure and align with global digitalisation trends.

The agreement was signed by Nasser bin Khamis Al Jashmi, Chairman of the Tax Authority, and Eng Sami bin Ahmed Al Ghassani, Chief Technology Officer at Omantel, during a ceremony held in Muscat.

The initiative represents a major shift in the digital governance of the tax sector.

The e-invoicing platform is designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve tax compliance, and boost the effectiveness of public revenue systems.

As part of the agreement, Omantel will develop an integrated and secure e-invoicing system, which will help enhance its expertise in digital innovation and its ongoing support for national sustainability and transformation strategies.

The system is expected to ease tax compliance for businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), by streamlining processes and enabling secure data exchange with international jurisdictions in line with global standards.
