US President Donald Trump said he would make a significant trade deal announcement on Thursday.

Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform that the "big news conference," set to be made at 10 am (1400 GMT) at the White House, would concern "a major trade deal with representatives of a big, and highly respected, country."

"The first of many," he continued, without disclosing which country was involved in the deal.

US newspaper The New York Times cited three sources familiar with the plans as saying that the agreement in question was with the United Kingdom.

This would be the first agreement with a major US trading partner since Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on imports to the US.
