The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has clarified the news circulating about free exit for undocumented workers and visitors staying in the Sultanate of Oman even after their visas have expired. They will not face any fines or legal proceedings.

The Ministry of Labour (MoL) previously announced that fines and legal proceedings have been waived for individuals whose visas have expired or are overstaying in Oman to help them leave the country, with the exception of those involved in criminal activity.

According to the MoL, this initiative is for illegal workers with expired residency permits who wish to depart Oman. They can apply through the ministry's website and follow the steps provided. Within a week, they will receive a notification from the ministry confirming their free exit, requiring only an airline ticket to their home country.

A senior ROP official told the Observer that the free exit of illegal workers is possible, as long as they have not committed any criminal offenses and adhere to the Ministry of Labour's conditions.

“The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has been monitoring reports of exemptions from fines and financial obligations for individuals and employers. It clarifies that the exemption includes specific cases mentioned in the Ministry of Labour's announcement regarding correcting conditions and settling fines and financial obligations,” she said.

The ROP has ensured all technical systems are in place to facilitate transactions and encourages eligible individuals to take advantage of the period for correcting their status, which continues until July 31, 2025.
