Muscat: Sometimes, having a dedicated team with private transport and a service desk located directly inside the airport can significantly ease investment procedures. While the Invest Oman Lounge is conveniently situated near the airport, its impact could be enhanced by establishing a presence strategically within the terminal itself, offering immediate access and support to arriving investors.

Welcoming investors immediately upon arrival, starting from the moment they step off the aircraft, sends a powerful message of seriousness, professionalism and hospitality. Providing a seamless, respectful and well-organised reception sets the tone for the investor’s entire visit, leaving a lasting impression that may very well influence their investment decisions.

Ideally, investors should be met directly at the aircraft door by a dedicated reception team. They should be escorted to a private area at the airport, away from the usual hustle of immigration queues, where they are offered immediate assistance. Dedicated representatives should be available to guide them through immigration, provide transportation and most importantly introduce them to the investment landscape of the country through tailored briefings and information packages.

From personal experience, having lived in the United States for four years, I have seen how investors are treated in major American airports. Upon arrival, they are often directed to private lounges or specialised investor welcome centres where they are met by professional staff members. These representatives not only handle logistics but also brief investors on available opportunities, priority sectors, government incentives and key contacts. This level of care reflects a deep understanding of the value that investors bring to the economy and the importance of cultivating a positive relationship from the outset.

Studies and reports by global institutions, such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), confirm that personalised investor services, including airport receptions, are a decisive factor in shaping investors’ perceptions and satisfaction. Countries that have invested in professional investor reception systems have consistently reported higher rates of repeat investments and stronger reputational advantages.

Several leading economies, including the United States, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and Qatar, have established robust investor arrival services at their airports. These services often include VIP immigration clearance, private transportation, dedicated briefing rooms, multilingual investment advisors and personalised concierge services. Such offerings not only streamline the arrival process but also create a sense of partnership and welcome that resonates with investors.

As competition for foreign direct investment becomes fiercer, providing an exceptional welcome experience is no longer a luxury, it is a strategic necessity. Countries that aspire to position themselves as prime investment destinations must focus not only on offering incentives and regulatory support but also on delivering superior experiences at every stage, beginning at the airport.

In short, how a country receives its investors is not a small detail, it is a statement of how much it values them, and in turn, how willing it is to support their success.
