MUSCAT: Oman is gearing up to be a key player in the global energy transformation discussions with the upcoming Oman Sustainability Week (OSW) and the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES). These two events will take place during May 11–15 and May 12–14, 2025, respectively, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, these events aim to bring together leaders, innovators, and policymakers from around the world to discuss the changing role of oil and gas in our energy future. As the industry faces increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, Oman is stepping forward as a regional hub for innovation, displaying technologies and strategies that support a low-carbon future.

With themes like “Sustainable Growth – Balancing Progress and Preservation” (OSW) and “Navigating the Energy Transition through Innovation in Oil and Gas” (OPES), these events demonstrate Oman’s dedication to environmental responsibility while maintaining its leadership in the energy sector. More than 350 companies from over 30 countries will present their groundbreaking solutions, and over 500 expert speakers will share their insights on how the oil and gas industry can remain strong and relevant in a quickly changing environment.

Dr Saleh al Anboori, Conference Chairperson, emphasized that OPES 2025 will focus on innovation aimed at reducing emissions, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting low-carbon technologies. “The oil and gas sector plays a critical role in tackling climate challenges,” he remarked.

Dr Ali al Rajhi, Director General for Planning and Studies at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and Chair of the OSW Steering Committee, stated that Oman Sustainability Week will place strong emphasis on the future of energy, water management, environmental resilience, and climate action. He noted that the inclusion of the International Sustainability Resources & Technology Conference (ISRTC) significantly enhances the event’s stature, positioning it as one of the largest gatherings in Oman for global thought leaders and industry experts in sustainability and renewable energy.

Eng Mohammed al Ghareebi, PDO’s External Affairs Manager, said that as PDO marks 88 years of service and the oil and gas sector celebrates its centenary, hosting OPES and OSW underscores Oman’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He described the events as key platforms driving collaboration towards a resilient and forward-looking energy future.

A standout feature will be the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) technical conference at OPES, which will spotlight innovative technologies and best practices. At the same time, OSW’s International Sustainability Resources & Technology Conference (ISRTC), organized by The Economist, will dig into global policy trends and investment shifts aimed at achieving net-zero targets.

The event emphasizes include the Future Mobility display, executive roundtable discussions, and the OSW Awards, which will honor excellence in ESG and eco-mobility. There will also be a special emphasis on nurturing emerging talent through the National Young Professionals platform.

With backing from industry titans like PDO, bp Oman, Shell, OQ, and international players such as Petronas and Mitsubishi, OSW and OPES 2025 will cement Oman’s position in the global transition, showing that oil and gas innovation can indeed be a driving force for sustainable advancement.
