Muscat: Five people have sustained moderate injuries following ammonia (NH₃) gas leak at a company in al Ghubrah area in the Wilayat of Bausher late last night, according to the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA).

In a statement, CDAA said the Hazardous Substance Incident Management Department of the Civil Defense and Ambulance Department in Muscat Governorate had successfully dealt with an ammonia gas leak incident (NH3) in a company in the al Ghubrah area in the Wilayat of Bausher. The incident resulted in five people being injured and taken to the hospital in moderate health condition.

Meanwhile, in the event of an ammonia gas leak, it is crucial to act quickly and carefully to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.

The first step is to evacuate the affected zone immediately, alerting others nearby and moving to a safe location upwind from the leak to avoid inhaling toxic fumes.

Emergency services, such as the fire department or a hazardous materials response team, should be contacted without delay and provided with details about the location and severity of the leak.

Once the situation is under control, it is important to report the incident, investigate the cause, and take steps to prevent future occurrences.

Regular safety drills, functioning ammonia detectors, and clear emergency protocols are essential in workplaces where ammonia is used.
