

TASHKENT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Council of Oman, is taking part in the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its accompanying meetings, currently convening in Tashkent, capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, over five days.
Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, held an official meeting with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, during which they discussed the importance of fostering Omani-Uzbek relations and strengthening cooperation and exchange of expertise at the legislative council level as well as enhancing cooperation in the economic and investment fields between the two friendly countries.
The delegation of the Council of Oman was headed by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura. The General-Assembly’s agenda includes the election of President for the 150th General-Assembly, consideration of requests to include an emergency item on the General-Assembly’s agenda, and a general debate under the title ‘Parliamentary Action for Development and Social Justice'.
The Council of Oman delegation participated in coordination meetings of the Arab Parliamentary Group, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the meeting of the GCC Parliaments with the GRULAC Group of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Council of Oman delegation will also participate in meetings of the IPU’s standing committees represented by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, the Standing Committee on International Peace and Security and the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs.
The Council of Oman’s delegation comprises Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Majlis Ash'shura, Dr Hanifa bint Ahmed al Qasimiyah, Member of the State Council, Dr Shamsa bint Masoud al Shaibaniyah, Member of the State Council, Khwaidem bin Mohammed al Maashani, Ammar bin Salem al Saadi and Walid bin Salem al Maliki. — ONA
