MUSCAT: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has granted approval to Starlink Muscat to begin offering broadband Internet services in the Sultanate of Oman using satellite communication systems.

Starlink is a satellite-based Internet technology operating in low Earth orbit (LEO), designed primarily to provide broadband Internet access in areas that lack high-speed Internet coverage.

Starlink Muscat will offer services across all geographical areas of Oman, including regions under the universal service coverage, with speeds reaching up to 100 Mbps. The company will also provide innovative solutions to connect telecom towers in areas with challenging geographical terrain, supporting the country's digital transformation efforts. In addition, the service will benefit several key economic sectors such as oil and gas, mining, tourism and agriculture.

The launch of the service in Oman is expected to bring several benefits, including boosting competition among licensed telecom operators, expanding user options, enhancing quality and speed, fostering a digitally enabled society and serving various business sectors. The service will be available to both individuals and entities seeking to access satellite Internet solutions.

It is worth noting that on June 20, 2023, Royal Decree No 42/2023 was issued, granting Starlink Muscat LLC a first-class licence to establish and operate a satellite communication system to provide fixed public telecommunications services in the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
